HAT:
The piece is worked in the round with double pointed needles. Cast on (68) 80-92-96-104 (112-116) stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and light grey. Work rib (= knit 2 / purl 2) for (2) 2-3-3-3 (4-4) cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm and knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease 8 stitches evenly on round = (60) 72-84-88-96 (104-108) stitches. Work stocking stitch. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION! When the piece measures (3) 3-4-4-4 (5-5) cm, change to yellow. Knit 1 round, purl 1 round, then work MOSS STITCH – see description above, until the piece measures approx. (4½) 4½-5½-5½-5½ (6½-6½) cm. Purl 1 round and knit 1 round. Change to light grey and work stocking stitch. When the piece measures (10) 11-12-13-14 (14-15) cm, insert (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) markers in the piece with (10) 9-12-11-12-13-12 stitches between each. On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker by knitting the first 2 stitches together after each marker (= (6) 8-7-8-8 (8-9) stitches decreased). Decrease like this every 2nd round a total of (6) 6-6-6-6 (7-7) times = (24) 24-42-40-48 (48-45) stitches.
On the next round knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = (12) 12-21-20-24 (24-23) stitches.
SIZES 1/3 - 6/9 -12/18 MONTHS (2 - 3/4) YEARS:
Knit 1 round. Knit all stitches together 2 and 2 = 11-10-12 (12-12) stitches.
ALL SIZES:
Pull a double strand through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The hat measures approx. (14) 15-16-17-18 (19-20) cm.
BOW:
Cast on 12 stitches with double pointed needles size 3 mm and yellow. Work moss stitch back and forth until the piece measures approx. 8 cm. Cast off. Wind a yellow strand 6 times around the middle of the bow to make a band. Fasten the bow to the yellow section on the hat.
----------------------------------------------------------
MITTENS:
The 3 larger sizes are worked with thumbs, the 2 smaller sizes without thumbs.
Cast on 44-48-52 (56-60) stitches with double pointed needles size 2.5 mm and light grey. Knit 1 round. Work rib (= knit 2 /purl 2) for 2-2-3 (4-4) cm. Change to double pointed needles size 3 mm. Then knit 1 round AT THE SAME TIME as you decrease 8-10-10 (10-10) stitches evenly on round = 36-38-42 (46-50) stitches. Continue in stocking stitch. When the piece measures 3-3-4 (6-7) cm, change to yellow, knit 1 round and purl 1 round. Then work MOSS STITCH – see description above, until the piece measures approx. 4½-4½ -6 (8-9) cm. HAT - SHORT OVERVIEW OF THE PIECE:
First a lining is worked, which is later folded up and sewn to the wrong side at the bottom of the hat, then a folding edge is worked before working pattern onwards. The hat is worked in the round with circular needle; change to double pointed needles when necessary.
HAT:
Cast on 96-102 (108-114-120) stitches with circular needle size 3 mm and red. Work A.1 (= 6 stitches) a total of 16-17 (18-19-20) times in width (= lining). When A.1 has been completed, the piece measures approx. 5 cm. REMEMBER THE KNITTING TENSION!
The next round is worked as follows with off white: * Knit 2 together, 1 yarn over *, work from *-* over all stitches (= folding edge). Knit 1 round (the yarn overs are not knitted twisted). Then work A.2 (= 6 stitches) a total of 16-17 (18-19-20) times on the round.
When A.2 has been completed, the piece measures approx. 13 cm (including 5 cm lining). The piece is now finished with red. When the piece measures 22 cm (including 5 cm lining; or continue to desired length, there is approx. 18-20 (20-23-25) cm left to work), work 1 round where you decrease 6-2 (8-4-0) stitches evenly on round = 90-100 (100-110-120) stitches. Then insert 10 marker threads in the piece with 9-10 (10-11-12) stitches between each one.
On the next round decrease 1 stitch after each marker thread – read DECREASE TIP (= 10 stitches decreased).
Decrease like this every 8th round a total of 8-9 (9-10-11) times = 10 stitches. Work all stitches together 2 and 2 = 5 stitches. Cut the strand, pull it through the remaining stitches, pull tight and fasten well. The hat measures approx. 40-42 (42-45-47) cm (including lining).
ASSEMBLY:
Fold the lining at bottom of hat onto the wrong side and sew down with red (sew onto a round of red). The hat measures approx. 35-37 (37-40-42) cm.
POM POM:
Make a pom pom with off white of approx. 4-6 cm in diameter and fasten to top of hat.
